The NEMA Surge Protection Institute (NSPI) is an educational outreach effort initiated by the Low Voltage Surge Protective Devices Section of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), a not-for-profit trade association. Our mission is to heighten awareness of the benefits of surge protection to all users of low voltage electrical systems in North America for the purpose of promoting proper application and usage.

 

Commercial

Surge protective devices (SPDs) are used in Commercial facilities to protect emergency lighting, computer systems, lighting, data centers and electronic equipment to name a few. Commercial facilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Hospitals, Offices, Retail and Schools.
Industrial

Surge protective devices (SPDs) are used in Industrial facilities to protect your machinery, telecommunications, data centers, computer systems and control systems to name a few. Industrial facilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Manufacturing facilities, Mining operations, Power utilities and Railroads.

Residential

Surge protective devices (SPDs) are used throughout today’s homes and apartments. There are two types used; Plug-in Devices (power strips) and Hard Wired (whole house). The residential section of the NEMA Surge Protection Institute website covers both types of devices, and provides the consumer with the information he or she needs to make solid decisions about protecting electronic equipment in the home, such as: home office equipment, home theater equipment, landscaping, lighting systems and appliances.
